The Blocks Part Two was launched on the 25th of May 2023 in the main hall of St.Andrews Community Centre in Rialto.

The short film series explores issues of generational trauma, the impact of addiction on family life and the lives of women and girls coming of age in Dublin’s inner city. As part of the launch event we created an invitation to take part in a ritual honouring the role of motherhood in the life of the community. I wrote the poem above as part of the invitation to help people understand the context in which we hoped to screen the short film and as a call to include the many complexities of motherhood it tries to honour.

We had a full house on the evening of the launch and Pat Tobin held the space for us all to participate fully in both the launch of the film and engagement with the ritual, enabling the audience to create a unique community altar to motherhood.
